Obituary for Patricia Hartwell "Pat" Simmons
Patricia Hartwell “Pat” Simmons, age 66, of Salem, Va. formerly of Hardy, Va. went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 18, 2019, in Salem, Va. She was born on Monday, November 3, 1952, to the late Dewey and Clarice Hartwell. “Pat” loved gardening and animals; especially her horses, Sundance and Whiskey, as well as her dogs, TJ and Sasha, and her cat, Oreo. She was a member of the Day Lilly Garden Club since 2011 in Rocky Mount, Va., and had many friends in the club. In 2010 she retired from the Salem branch of VDOT. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Simmons; paternal grandparents, Charlie, and Mamie Hartwell; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Gracie Duke and Gracie’s second husband, Harry Plaster; great-niece, Angela Kay Hartwell; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish her memory include two brothers, Eddie Hartwell and wife, Gwen of Largo, Fl., Joe Hartwell of West Palm Beach, Fl.; three sisters, Rose Bair and husband, Gale, Janice Hartwell and the love of her life, James Robertson, and Jannette Hartwell all of Salem, Va.; nieces and nephews, Nicole Bardell and husband, Brent of Largo, Fl.; Laura Barber, Sarah Tyler and husband, John both of Richmond, Va., Corey Lunsford of Rocky Mount, Va., Matthew Hartwell and fiancé, LeAnne Hlavka of Long Beach, Ca., Spring Hartwell Abney and Amber Hartwell Pendelton of Roanoke, Va. who were like daughters to Pat; great-nieces and nephews, Emily, Blake, Kim, Sammie, Gavin, Zachery, Hunter, Cameron, Easton, and Jackson; special neighbors, Sharon and Charlie Wiseman and Diane and Mike Wall.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. with Pastor Dan Carawan officiating.
Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour on Sunday.
