On Friday, May 20, 2016, Eleanor Louise Garland Camper, 96, of Roanoke, left the side of her loving family to join her Lord in Heaven to be one of his precious angels.
Eleanor was born to Leonidas Eager and Annie Laurie Garland on February 3, 1920 in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in Buchanan, Virginia. Eleanor retired from J. C. Penney's in Roanoke after 23 years, she was an faithful member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, she enjoyed shopping with her daughters each weekend and playing cards with her friends at Fairington Apartments.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, L.E.; and two sisters, Evelyn and Audrey. Left to cherish the memories she made over her lifetime are her 4 daughters, Betty Joan Kearns (Carl), Rosanne (Ken) Saunders, Judith Brown, and Joyce (Ronnie) Lester; 5 granddaughters, Lori (Bill) Wall, Jacqueline (Tom) Baxter, Jennifer Craft, Shannon (Scott) Maxey, and Tonya (Eric) Woolwine; 4 grandsons, Ken (Millie) Saunders, Jr., Jim (Merry) Craft, Greg (Debbie) Saunders, and Jeff (Ute) Craft; and 19 great-grandchildren.
While our hearts grieve the loss of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Meme, GeeGee, and friend, we will cherish each day we were blessed to have her with us and the people she has shaped each one of us to be.
A celebration of Eleanor's life will take place at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 12 p.m. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Fairview Cemetery, PO Box 553, Buchanan, VA 24066 (www.fairviewbuchanan.org), or Rosalind Hills Baptist Church Food Pantry, 2712 Brandon Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015.
