Connie J. White, 59, of Roanoke, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 9, 2016.

She was born in Roanoke, a daughter of Harry James Austin and the late Mary Hill Austin and had been an area resident all of her life. She was a member of Fellowship Community Church where she volunteered in Kids Life Ministry. She was employed as an administrative assistant for many years at the Roanoke City Housing Authority prior to retiring. Connie’s greatest joys in life were spending time with her family, most especially her darling grandchildren. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Austin.

Along with her father, she is survived by her son, Travis White and his fiancée Kimberly Tuckwiller; three grandchildren, Cierra White, Kenny White and Isaac White; two sisters, Cathy Noell and husband Keith, and Nelthia Barton; two brothers, Lewis Austin and Larry Austin and his wife Lorraine, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Friday, May 13, 2016 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Rev. Ken Nienke will officiate. Burial will be held at 2PM at Vest Cemetery in Check, VA. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday (this evening) at the funeral home. An online guest book is available for family and friends by visiting www.johnmoakey.com.
