Matthew Foster Burton, Sr., 57, of Salem, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. A proud American, he enrolled into the United States Navy soon after his high school graduation from Andrew Lewis in 1976. He will be remember for his infectious smile and his love to discuss politics with anybody. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Burton; mother, Mildred Burton; and brother, Gary Burton. A proud father, he is survived by sons, Matthew Foster Burton, Jr. (Hannah) and Daniel Burnette Burton (Jennifer); his sisters, Melanie Burton Leavitt (Merv) and Deborah Burton Boitnott (Murrill); sister-in-law, Billie Boothe Burton; and beloved nieces and nephews, Amy Burton Simonpietri (Sean), Alison Burton Bundy (Matt), Ashley Burton Ovsenjenko (Michael), Jonathan Burton Leavitt, Sara Leavitt Campbell (Chris), Kaylin Leavitt Welch (Rob), Emily Boitnott Jennings (Jody), Holly Boitnott Furtick (Steven), Joy Lillian Boitnott, and their many children. A period of visitation will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2015 in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A memorial service will then begin at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
