Obituary for Leo Patrick Buckley Jr.
Leo Patrick Buckley, Jr., 85, of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
He was born on August 16, 1929 in Hastings, Neb. to the late Leo Patrick and Helen Gilbertson Buckley. Upon receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T., he went on to work as a controls engineer with G.E. for 46 years and received many awards. Leo was also a pilot, was a charter member of the Blue Ridge Soaring Society, and scored glider competitions around the world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mom, Margot Buckley; children, Kevin Dodson and Kaitlin Buckley; 1 brother; and 3 sisters. His surviving family includes his wife, Patricia W. Buckley; children, Pamela Dodson, Megan Haught and husband, Matt, and Patrick Buckley; 3 brothers, Jim, Jerry and Bill Buckley; 1 sister, Peg Braunsdorf; and grandchildren, Blair, Tyler, and Jesse Dodson and Emma, Olivia, and Millie Haught.
A Rosary service will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A period of visitation will follow from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, also in Salem. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
