Obituary for Carl Edward Bradford
Carl Edward Bradford, 97, of Salem, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. The son of Alex and Ida Bradford, he was born on August 15, 1917 in Cambria, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of over 67 years, Sarah Burris Bradford; sister and brother-in-law, Pearlie and Frank Bradford; and an infant son, Donnie Ray Bradford.
Carl served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of Gospel Baptist Church. He was a kind and gentle man who will be remembered for his compassionate prayers. He enjoyed studying the Bible, gardening, and spending time with his family.
A loving father whose memory will be cherished, he is survived by two sons, Gary Bradford and his wife Sandra, and Roger Bradford, his devoted caregiver.
The family extends their appreciation for the care and kindness given by Good Samaritan Hospice, Debbie Repsher, Brian Andrews, Brenda St.Clair and Melissa Lawhorn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with the Rev. Sam Huntley, Sr. Officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, March 20, 2015 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Gospel Baptist Church, 5921 Dow Hollow Rd. Salem, VA 24153.
