Obituary for Larry Edward Quarles Sr.

Larry Edward Quarles “Big Larry”, 73, of Roanoke, parked his rig one last time, on Thursday, July 4, 2019.

Larry was known for his loving heart and kindness. He was a life-long truck driver. Over the course of his career he received accreditations for traveling over two million miles accident-free. He loved talking on his C.B. radio and listening to the truck drivers’ communications when he wasn’t on the road himself. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war where his love for trucking was created.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Ira Quarles and Donna Arnold; brother, Samuel Quarles Sr.; two sisters, Dorothy Quarles, and Mary Boothe; two daughters, Doris Sowers, and Tammy Stout.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 38 years, Peggy Quarles; seven children, Larry Jr., Donna, Robert, Tommy, Gary, Brenda, and Susan; and two sisters, Margaret Patterson, and Ellen Wright (Mike); 21 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019, from 2-4:00 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home 305 Roanoke Blvd. Salem, Va., 24153. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son.
