Obituary for Kenneth Darden Stump

Kenneth D. Stump, age 72, of Salem, Va. lost his battle with cancer after a brave and valiant fight on Thursday, March 28, 2019. He was born on Wednesday, September 18, 1946, to the late Clifford and Evelyn Stump. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Salem; he was the co-owner of Stump Brothers Contractors, along with his brother, C.W. Stump, for 42 years. He was also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and VA Tech Hokies! In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Wayne Draper, and Ricky Winfrey.
Those left to cherish his precious memory include his wife, Donna M. Stump; children, Wendy Gilbert (Danny), Mark Roop (Michelle),Shawn Severn (Todd), and Debbie Lynn Roop; granddaughter, Samantha Severn (Seth); brother, C.W. Stump (Nellie K.); sisters, Virginia Hollifield (Maurice), and Elizabeth “Libby” Draper; sisters-in-law, Debbie Harless (Mike) and Judy Casey; numerous nephews and nieces also survive.
A funeral service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va., with Dr. Carey Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at the funeral home.
