Obituary

Kenneth D. Stump, age 72, of Salem, Va. lost his battle with cancer after a brave and valiant fight on Thursday, March 28, 2019. He was born on Wednesday, September 18, 1946, to the late Clifford and Evelyn Stump. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Salem; he was the co-owner of Stump Brothers Contractors, along with his brother, C.W. Stump, for 42 years. He was also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and VA Tech Hokies! In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Wayne Draper, and Ricky Winfrey.
Those left to cherish his precious memory include his wife, Donna M. Stump; children, Wendy Gilbert (Danny), Mark Roop (Michelle),Shawn Severn (Todd), and Debbie Lynn Roop; granddaughter, Samantha Severn (Seth); brother, C.W. Stump (Nellie K.); sisters, Virginia Hollifield (Maurice), and Elizabeth “Libby” Draper; sisters-in-law, Debbie Harless (Mike) and Judy Casey; numerous nephews and nieces also survive.
A funeral service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va., with Dr. Carey Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society: www.cancer.org.
The family wishes to thank; the staff, nurses, and valet attendants at Lewis-Gale Medical Center; Blue Ridge Cancer Care – Salem; and Dr. Vandana Karri for all of the kind and compassionate care that Kenneth received.

Kenny thank you for all you did for us and treating us like your own kids. I will miss Sunday football in the garage. But mostly just the times we had. You were one of the best and we will cherish your memory forever. With much love ! Rest Kenny we love you

Sorry Nana for your loss Kenny was definitely one of a kind easy going no kind of Rush guy. He could fix anything more of a detailed guy you know anybody can build a house or a big building Kenny was the man that came in and little details he's come up with stuff to make jobs so much easier he would make tools out of tools just to make jobs easier time didn't matter Kenny never rushed Kenny took his time he wanted things perfect our conversations were always great little Western on the TV drink drinking beer I will miss those times garage times he was always in the garage didn't want to be nowhere else he can have a mansion and still wanted the garage he treated me as if I was his own family I could ask him anything he was just simple man ......A mans man probably the strongest man i knew you couldnt hold kenny back he stayed busy doing something lol definitely will be missed MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT
