Steve and I were football teammates and members of the Class of 1963 at Andrew Lewis High School. Although I settled in Pensacola, Florida after college, Steve was one of my high friends with whom I maintained contact. While I knew he had health issues in recent years, I was stunned when I learned he died. During our lives we meet many good people, but few have the intelligence, integrity and sense of honor required to earn our unconditional trust. Steve was one of those few. He was an amazing man and it was my privilege to be his friend and teammate.

On behalf of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment's veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia please accept my condolence and that of so many of Stephen's brothers-in-arms . Stephen served proudly and courageously in the Air Cav Troop in Vietnam in 1969. An honorable and respected trooper and pilot, it was our privilege to have him in the ranks of the Legendary Blackhorse Regiment.
Our loss is that of another brother down, who we respectfully salute this day and will continue to honor his memory at our annual reunion and in our newsletter. His name has been listed on the Honor Roll of Our Honored Dead. But life has not ended, merely changed and as we were together then (in Vietnam) we will be together again in the life hereafter, comfortably enfolded in the loving arms of Our Merciful Father. Chaplain Blandin W. Karabinos - 11th ACVVC (11th ACR Vietnam 71-72)
