Aileen Beason Layne, 92, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019.

She was born in Roanoke County, a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Elizabeth Hill Beason and had been an area resident all of her life. She was a life-long and devoted member of West Salem Baptist Church, where she served as librarian and church secretary prior to retiring. Aileen was a lover of art, poetry, flowers and all things beautiful. She was a loving wife and mother, and adored her three grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cabel G. Layne, who died in 2013, her son, David L. Layne, and three siblings, Lura “Sis” Martin, Forest Beason and Bill Beason.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Layne Mallory and her husband John of Forest, VA; her grandchildren, Matthew Mallory of Kansas City, KS, Melissa Mallory of Boston, MA, and Meredith Mallory Kozera and husband Alex of Richmond, VA. Also surviving is her beloved brother, Thomas Beason, and sister-in-law and dear friend, Venice Beason, both of Roanoke County.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Rev. Nick Shaffer will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
