Jeanette Dickerson Carter, age 96, of Salem, Va. went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2018. She was born on Saturday, April 22, 1922 to the late Judd and Nellie Dickerson. Jeanette was a retired secretary for Sheet Metal Workers Local 100 with 33 years of service. She enjoyed dancing, walking, and reading and was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church in Salem, Va. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Burks Carter, two sisters, Louise Ownesbey, and Kathleen Richards.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Anderton and husband, Thomas of Bent Mountain, Va.; son, Steven Lee Carter, of Birmingham, Al.; grandchildren, Susan Carter Anderson and husband, Dave of Greenville, Sc., Adam Carter and wife, Christina of Aurora, Co., and Stephanie Carter of Pinson, Al.; four beautiful great-grandchildren; eight beloved nephews and nieces, and great-nephew Justin Richards.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church 428 S. College Ave, Salem, Va. 24153 with Rev. Brian Buckles officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va.
Friends may visit with the family at the church from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Central UMC at the address above or to the Salem Food Pantry at: salemfoodpantry.org/how-you-can-help/ in Jeanette’s memory.
