Obituary for William Carter "Bill" Roberts Sr.

William Carter Roberts, Sr., 78, of Rocky Mount and formerly of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2018.
Bill was an avid hiker and backpacker around the Blue Ridge Mountains. He loved taking care of Roanoke families and visitors young and old, he inspired countless laughs and more memories than one could count at his Lakeside Amusement Park. In addition to owning and operating Lakeside he also owned Jellystone Campground. Bill retired after a long career at IBM. He was a family man, and is a precious and loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and he adored his dogs and cats. Bill knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior, his relationship with God led him to become a deacon at Virginia Heights Baptist Church and Gogginsville United Methodist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Linwood Roberts and Margaret Garst Roberts.
Left to cherish his memory are wife, Carol Jean Roberts; twin children, Sally Blair Roberts and William Carter Roberts, Jr. and wife, Dara; brothers, Joseph Linwood Roberts and wife, Leah Ann and Michael Leonard Roberts and wife, Vicki; sister, Margaret Ann Tester; grandchildren, Kaiden Leigh Roberts and William Carter Roberts, III; and numerous friends and pets.

Bill was deeply involved with animal rescue, and would be greatly honored if any creature was helped or adopted in his name.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Gogginsville United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount, with an hour prior visitation, officiated by Pastor Kathryn Budzik. A committal will follow at 1 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park with military honors, Salem.
