Obituary for James Patrick "Jim" Finn

James Patrick "Jim"  Finn
James (Jim) Patrick Finn, 81, of Salem, Va. and formerly of St. Louis, Mo., made his transition on Friday, July 13, 2018.

Jim was born on September 17, 1936, to the late William and Leona Finn. In his younger days, he took his family camping every weekend and enjoyed the long train rides back home to St. Louis. He was employed by the Wabash Railroad that later became N&W and retired in 1996. He loved all rock music and had an extensive album collection. He was an innovative cook, and could fold laundry military style.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marissa Mabes; and a brother-in-law, Gene Felder.

His surviving family includes his wife of 59 years, Marianne Finn; children, Jim Finn and wife, Chris, of Goochland, Va., Julie Finn and husband, Daryl Lease of Moyock, N.C., Lucy Finn of Roanoke, Va., and William Finn of Greenville, S.C.; sisters, Pat Kelly and husband, Bill, and Peggy Felder, all of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Savannah and Riley Finn, Micah Finn, Kelsey Mabes, Phoebe Lease, and Liz Lautenslager; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Jones and Lydia Witter; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. A memorial service will then begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Frances Barnhart officiating. The committal will be private.
