Bertha (Burcham) Jones, 89, of Salem for 54 years and formerly of Richmond, Radford, and Galax, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ethel Burcham; and eight siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are husband, Cody Jones; children, Sylvia Jacobs (Russell), Suzanne O’Connell (Doug), David Crawford (Cindy), Liz Parr (Jerry), Tim Jones (Karen), and Jason Jones (Beth); grandchildren, Angela Jacobs, Wayne Jacobs, Andrea Lewis, Bryan Brammer, Jeffrey Brammer, Eric O’Connell, Christine Whittaker, Christopher Crawford, Jacob Parr, Nathan Parr, Nick Jones, Oliva Jones, Zack Jones, Aaron Jones, Brett Jones, Justin Jones, Chris Shelton, and Tiffany Shelton; great-grandchildren, Ashely, Alyssa, Zuzu, Zoey, Hunter, Nino, John David, Abigail, and Joshua; and great, great-grandchildren, Aiden, Logan, Jacob, Luke, Leah, Bricen, and Maddie.
Bertha loved spending time with her family, especially their babies and children as well as any baby or child she came in contact with. She was a member of West Salem Baptist Church for over 40 years where she loved working in their nursery, participating in their WMU program, and Sunday School. She currently is a member of Windsor Hills Baptist Church. After retiring from a 30 year career at the Salem VA Medical Center, Bertha spent her time working at the Lakeside Baptist Church’s daycare and running an online book business with her daughter, Suzanne, which she enjoyed immensely.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, with an hour prior visitation. A committal will follow at 3 p.m. at Crooked Creek Cemetery in Galax, VA.
