Obituary for James Douglas "Jimmy" Haley

James “Jimmy” Douglas Haley, 70, of Salem, Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, after a long, hard battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ruth Haley; and sisters, Dorothy and Betty.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nellie Irene Haley; and sons, Mark (Beth), John (Patricia), and George (Lendi); and 11 grandchildren that were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Clara Jennings (Walker), Ruby Breedlove (Bill), and Norma Wilburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a self-employed painter who worked for numerous contractors around the Roanoke Valley. However, he finished his career working for Robin Dent, for whom he had the upmost respect. He was a member at Christian Life International in Salem, Va., where he attended whenever his health allowed.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care. Special thanks go to his nurse, Angie Layne, and to Tina Hughes of Home Health Recovery for their outstanding support the last few months.

A period of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, in the funeral home’s chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
