Ronald Lee "Ron"  Minton
Ronald L. Minton, 72, of Salem, was called home on Monday, April 9, 2018. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Archer and Evelyn Minton; and sister, Regina Carnes.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Jeanie Minton; daughters, Mackenzie Prandi and husband, Barry, and Jennifer Cleveland and husband, Richard; son, Andrew Minton; brother, Archie Minton and wife, Pat; sisters, Rita Sexton and Carla Brown and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Emma, James, Wyatt, Hannah, Victoria, and Evelyn; numerous nieces and nephews; and the many friends he made from his work for veterans.
Ron was a retired captain of the Salem Fire and Rescue Department. He had a passion for organizing events that would raise money for local veteran organizations such as the D.A.V. Chapter 3 and Wounded Warrior which included a golf tournament.
A period of visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Fort Lewis Fire and Rescue Station 9 and their Ambulance #91 for their diligence in Ron’s care as well as Lewis Gale Medical Center’s Emergency Room staff and Dr. Evett for their care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Salem’s local DAV Chapter 3 at 2381 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, VA 24153.
