Obituary for Frank Sandy Lawrence

Frank Sandy  Lawrence
Frank S. Lawrence, 72, MSG. Ret. U.S. Army, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Frank and Hazel Lawrence, and with the exception of his military service, was a life long resident. He retired from the US Army as a Master Sargent following many years of service including tours of duty in the Vietnam war. Following his retirement from the Army, He was employed as a mechanic at Terry Walter’s Engines.

He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Karanja; step-sons, Tony and Philip Barnes; two brothers, Ronald Lawrence, and Terry Lawrence and wife Kathy; five sisters, Patricia Schild and husband Russ, Rebecca Burris, Delores Racel and husband Edward, Twyala Lawrence and Wendy Helman. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, several step-grandchildren, and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM, Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. The Rev. John Abbott will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
