Obituary for Ronnie Gene Prater

Ronnie Gene Prater, 65, of Elliston, VA passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017. He was born April 15, 1952 in Beech Creek, WV a son of the late Willie Green Prater and Ida Bell Varney Prater. He was also preceded in death by five siblings, William Prater, Richard Prater, Larry Prater, Nellie Hawkins and Anna Bell McMahan. Mr. Prater was an Army Vietnam Veteran and a retired truck driver. He loved hunting and fishing. He loved his family, grandchildren, dogs and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Nellie Michelle Hall Prater; four children, Sissy McNeil and husband, J.D., Michael Prater and wife, Kerry, Tonia Peters and husband, Manfred and Crystal Hall; ten grandchildren, Aimee, Buck, Christian, Savannah, Dylan, Jada, Kaylee, Mason, Gracian and Ethan; two great-grandchildren, Ivee and Evan; sisters, Bonnie Adcock(Aubrey), Kathy Lunsford(Clarence), Rita Senger, Lori Paulette; special brother in law and friend Eric Hall; a number of nieces, nephews and extended family. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating. Interment will follow at the Southwest Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Thursday. The family would like to thank Medi Home Health & Hospice and the MSICU and PCU at Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center for their loving care of Ronnie.
