Joe Edward  Cruise
Joe Edward Cruise, 77, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 16, 2018.

He was born in Galax, the son of the late James Cruise and De Etta Higgins Burris and had been an area resident most of his adult life. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot, and worked at Piedmont Airlines and later US Air, from which he retired. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, NASCAR racing, football, especially the Green Bay Packers, golf, and breakfast with his buddies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Steve.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Johns Cruise; two half-brothers, Junior and J.B.; three half- sisters, Marie, Alta and Shirley; his extended family, Charlotte, Wendell, Kathy, Jessica, Tim, Sarah, Larry, Jr., Gary, Diane, Kaitlyn, Meaghan and Hunter. Also surviving are his ‘Breakfast Buddies’ Jose, Larry, Don and Roy, as well as many, many other friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Pastor Steve Russell will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park where Military Honors will be afforded. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday (this evening) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105, or by visiting www.stjude.org.
