Obituary for Karen Elizabeth Montgomery (Nichols)
Karen Elizabeth Montgomery, 75, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2018. She was born in Princeton, W. Va. on Sunday, March 21, 1943. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Kathleen Nichols.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted and loving husband and soulmate, Harold M. Montgomery; son, Tim Montgomery and wife, Sharon; grandson, Josh M. Montgomery and wife, Dana; great, grandson, Grayson M. Montgomery; and sister, Susan Conner.
Karen earned a master’s degree in education from Radford University and was a talented and dedicated teacher in Roanoke County for 30 years. She took great pride in being an educator and was beloved by her students.
She was a faithful and long-time member of Goodwin United Methodist Church, serving on many committees throughout the years. Karen was also a member of the Salem Chapter of the Eastern Stars.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org in Karen’s memory.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Charles DeHart. A committal will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
