Obituary for Jake Aldridge

Jake Aldridge, 19, of Salem, Va., passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

He was a 2017 graduate of Salem High School. He loved sports, playing baseball and basketball, and was an excellent basketball referee. He will always be remembered for his charm, witty sense of humor, and Gucci style. He loved traveling in his Mercedes to music festivals with friends and going to his favorite city, New York, to see the Yankees play and to shop the city stores. He lit up every room he ever entered and was a shining light on this earth.

Preceding him in death are two grandparents, Bradford D. Darby and William C. Aldridge.

His surviving family includes his father, Mark A. Aldridge and partner, Paige Comer; mother and special stepfather, Reneé Darby Mitchell and David N. Mitchell; sister, Anna C. Mitchell; grandparents, Barbara R. Aldridge, Bobby and Maggie Taylor, and Marvin and Joyce Mitchell; uncles and aunts, William C. Aldridge, Jr., Dana Banker and husband, Brad, Wanda Fuschino and husband, Larry, and Becky Aldridge; and numerous other family members and close friends.

The family extends a sincere thanks to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Neuro Trauma Team, LifeNet, and a special thank you to his nurse, Ally Duvall, for her exceptional and loving care for Jake and his entire family.

A period of visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. A service celebrating Jake’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, also in the chapel, with Pastor Chuck Miller of Wheatland Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
