Obituary for Betty Jo Reid Smith
Betty Jo Reid Smith, 84, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
She was a longtime member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. Betty Jo was a graduate of C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge and UVA school of nursing and practiced nursing in the Roanoke Valley for over 50 years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marvin C. “Buddy” Smith, Jr. of Roanoke; children, Ann Gurley and husband, Lynn, of Roanoke, Sarah Boblett and husband, Howard, of Martinsville, Chap Smith of Madison, and Stuart Smith and wife, Sheri, of Salem; twin sister, Mary Ann Laughlin and husband, James E., of Massanutten; brother, David Reid of Abingdon; grandchildren, Amanda Wright and husband, Casey, Tyler Gurley and wife, Brittany, Christopher Boblett and wife, Adria, Lauren Boblett and fiancé, Will, Wyatt Smith, and Sawyer Smith; great-grandchildren, Kaylin Boblett, Camden Boblett, and Paisley Gurley; special sister-in-law, Betty Anderson and husband, Joe; nephew, Reid Laughlin and wife, Sheila; and niece, Grace Verderosa and husband, John.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Whaley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church at 1837 Grandin Road in Roanoke, Va. 24015.
