Obituary for Lorene Farley Slusher

Lorene Farley Slusher, age 81, of Salem, Va. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 4, 2018. She was born on Sunday, September 6, 1936 to the late Cecil and Lucy Farley. Lorene was an avid doll collector, and talented seamstress. She was noted for being a wonderful cook, because she made the best fried chicken, having retired after 23 years in food service for the Roanoke County Public Schools System. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, special grandmother, and wonderful great-grandmother. Mr. & Mrs. Slusher were members of CommUNITY Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Wila Mae Farley Shepard; and a brother, David Farley.
She is survived by her husband Wallace E. Slusher; son, Donald Slusher; daughter, Becky Slusher Wimmer and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Victoria Akers and husband, Adam, Katie Slusher, Amber Dame, and Kyle Dame; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Parker Akers, and Amelia Dame; sisters, Mary Jane Richardson and husband, Bill, Dolly Bishop and husband, Bob, Florence Bishop and husband, Benny, Cora Thompson and husband, Gratton, and Lou Belcher and husband, Freddy; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, special friends, Frank and Norma Francisco and the rest of their church family at CommUNITY Church in Salem, Va.
A funeral service to celebrate her life at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. with Pastor Dan Carawan and Pastor Josh Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Va.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the funeral home.
