Inez Everling Good, 94, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 after a short battle with pneumonia.
Born on July 29, 1923 in Wegberg, Germany, Inez came to America on a foreign exchange program in 1951. She met her husband and the love of her life, Sam R. Good, in 1952 on a blind date at Roanoke College. Both Inez and Sam were life-long professors at Roanoke College, where Inez taught German and French.
Inez is predeceased by her parents, Kurt and Elsbeth Everling (Germany); husband of 52 years, Sam Good; and brother, Joachim Everling. Surviving family are her sister, Nora Stepf; sister in-law, Ellie Umberger; son, Michael (wife, Kathy); grandson, David (wife, Karina); and great-grandchildren, Polina, Ann-Sophie, and Veronika Good.
Inez was a former member of College Lutheran Church in Salem, and later the Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke. Both congregations showed her great kindness. Inez became a philanthropist making donations to many organizations.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the good people of The Park – Oak Grove and Salem Health and Rehab.
A period of visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at East Hill Cemetery, Salem.
