Mary Virginia Lester (Osborne)
Mary Virginia Osborne Barnard Lester, 77, died peacefully at her home with her children and sister by her side on September 30, 2017. Formerly of Grundy, Virginia and Richmond, Virginia, she lived in Roanoke, Virginia for 45 years.
She was born in Bramwell, West Virginia on September 17, 1940. She graduated from Grundy High School, attended Queens College, and graduated from Hollins College. She was a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, serving in many roles including circle leader and usher.
She enjoyed traveling, tennis, golf and was an avid reader. She also loved to play card games and board games with her family and was a duplicate bridge life master. Spending time at the lake and beach with her family and friends brought her great joy. Mary Virginia’s ten grandsons were the delight of her life and she spent a lot of her time at their concerts and sporting events. Her home was always welcoming, especially at Christmas when her tree seemed magical. Mary Virginia’s kind eyes and caring nature made all who knew her feel special. This generous spirit inspired many long-lasting friendships.
