Beverly Otey  Kennedy
Beverly Otey Kennedy, 82, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Louise Otey; brothers, Earl Morris, Thomas Edward, John Irving and Gerald Newton Otey, and husbands, Malcom Taylor and Cleve Kennedy.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Dr. Mark (Mary) Wheeler; granddaughters, Lauren (Philip) Karagozian, and Ashley (Brian) Richter all of Westminster, CO; sister Carolyn Otey of Pensacola, FL; brother, Michael L. (Eloise) Otey of Salem; step-daughter, Judy (Miles) Hallman; step-son, David (JoAnne) Kennedy; and special niece and nephews, Tracy Crozier, Tim Otey and Michael L. Otey, II.

Beverly was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served as Senior Adults Ministries Leader, numerous committees and the yearly yard sale at the church.

Heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lewis Gale Medical Center Hematology/Oncology Departments, especially Dr. Mark Currie. Thanks to Medi-Home Health and Hospice, and special thanks to Amy Jeffreys, her hospice nurse.

Also thanks to her caregivers, Manderlina Joyce, Valerie Hasan, Marty Mikel, Ann Wood, Sharli Callaway, and her sister-in-law, Shirley Cobb.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating. Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Beverly’s name may be made to Bethel Baptist Church 1601 S. Colorado St. Salem, VA 24153.
