Obituary for Kathleen Delia Brightwell (Gallagher)

Kathleen Delia Gallagher Brightwell, 71, of Salem, VA passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017. She was born April 2, 1945 in Adams, Mass., a daughter of the late John Elliot and Ellen May Roberts Gallagher. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael H. Brightwell, Sr.

Mrs. Brightwell was retired from the Salem VA Medical Center with 32 years of service. She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem and the Edgewood Lions Club.

She is survived by her son, Michael H. Brightwell, Jr. and his wife, Tina; daughters, Tammie Brightwell, Kellie Brightwell Delk and husband, Keith and April Light and husband, David; sister, Eileen Burke and husband, Bruce; brothers, John Gallagher and wife, Ursula, Brian Gallagher and wife, Debbie and Shawn Gallagher; grandchildren, Ashley Brightwell, Hollie Wipf and husband, Zach, Michael Brightwell, III, Brook Hutton and Dusty Hutton; great-grandson, Roscoe; and a number nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 3, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 am Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Salem with Rev. Ken Shuping officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Lions Sight Program, 501 Elm Ave., Roanoke, VA 24016.
