Elizabeth Hamlen Parr
PARR
Elizabeth Hamlen

Elizabeth Hamlen Parr, 81, of Salem, went to be at peace with her Lord and her beloved husband, Mervin (Bill) Parr in the early hours of Monday, February 27, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Iva and Carey Sweeny. Left to treasure her memory are her brother, Rees Sweeny of Sweeny, TX; daughters Terry Colville (Chris), Becki Hamlen, and Jenny Hamlen (Art Durham); step-sons Danny Parr (Kaye), Tommy Parr (Susan), and Mike Parr (Lindsey), and numerous grand-children and great-grandchildren. After a career at Northside High School and Roanoke College, Liz retired with Bill to share their love of North Myrtle Beach and passion for traveling the world. Throughout her life, Liz was an active member of various churches and their choirs and a dedicated volunteer to numerous civic and professional organizations. Most importantly, she was a fantastic friend, wonderful wife, and magnificent mom.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and CNAs at Our Lady of the Valley and South Roanoke Nursing Home for their love and care.

Funeral services followed by a reception will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Feeding America Southwest Virginia or the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.
