Roy Campbell  Stanford III
Roy Campbell Stanford, III, 56, of Salem, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016.

A fourth generation Salemite, he was the son of the late Roy Campbell Stanford, Jr. and Betty Crotts Stanford Peters. He was employed as a customer service representative with Applied Industrial Technologies for over twenty years. He was a hardworking, fun loving and wonderful father, who would do anything for his children. Roy enjoyed beach vacations, fishing, spending days at the lake, hot tubs, “cause it’s HOT”, the band AC/DC, and was an avid Virginia Tech fan. He was a member of the East Salem Boosters Club and spent many years coaching with Salem Recreation. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Garfield Peters.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Smith Stanford; a son Roy Campbell Stanford, IV; two daughters, Rhea Stanford Cawley and her husband Robert, and Rachel Marie Stanford; two sisters, to whom he was the best brother in the world, Cindy Stanford Cook and husband Ronnie, and Kay Stanford Taylor and husband Mark. Roy is also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and faithful companion, Rocky “Boo” Stanford.

Funeral services will be held at 3PM, Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Father Tom Reeves will officiate.
