Obituary for Wayne Allen Sledd

Wayne Allen  Sledd
Wayne A. Sledd, 76, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2016 with his family by his side.

He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Robert and Kathleen Sledd and had been a Salem area resident most of his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was employed as a manager in the print shop of Double Envelope prior to retiring after 40 years of service. Wayne enjoyed gardening, golf, pewtersmithing, but most of all spending time and playing with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Sledd.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis Dunham Sledd; three daughters, Terri Green and husband Mike, Karen Cook and husband Dennis, Sherri Parrish and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Cameron Green, Bradley Cook, Kiel Cook, Maddie Parrish and Sam Parrish; and adopted daughter, Pat Lowe and her daughter, Kris Lowe. Wayne is also survived by four sisters, Marilyn Underwood and husband Tom, Margaret Rakes, Mary Sledd and Carol Jones and husband Warren; two brothers, Bob Sledd and wife Joan, Jimmy Sledd and wife Karen, a sister-in-law, Patsy Sledd, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM, Friday, September 28, 2016 at CommUNITY Church 1923 E. Main St. Salem, VA. Pastors Tom McCracken and Dan Carawan will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
