Obituary for Carol Ann Whitley (Batson)

Carol Ann  Whitley (Batson)
Carol Ann Whitley, 62, of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 and is now resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold C. and Marjory Batson; sister, Janet Plum; and brothers, Bruce and Brian.
Carol will be cherished as a beloved wife, mother, and nana. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Carol had a big heart, having a passion for helping the elderly and disadvantaged. She loved and faithfully served the Lord. She also loved her church, Beacon Baptist, where she and her husband taught Sunday School together as a team. She was married for 43 years to the love her of life, Roger. She will be deeply missed.
Family left to cherish her memory include her husband, Roger S. Whitley; daughters, Judie Pierce and husband Jason and Marianne Thomasson; sisters, Carolyn Griffin and Sharon Batson; grandchildren, Savannah Thomasson, Nicolas Pierce, and Macy Pierce; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 6 until 8 pm at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service to honor Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 1 pm at Beacon Baptist Church in Salem with Dr. Don Woodard officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer's Association (P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011).
